About BitBackMe
What is BitBackMe?
BitBackMe is a Bitcoin-only fundraising site. You publish a public campaign page with your story and a Bitcoin address. Supporters send Bitcoin from their wallet to yours. We are not in the middle. You keep every payment that arrives — whether or not you reach the goal on the page.
Are you a charity or a payment company?
No. We are a listing website. We are not a bank, charity, trustee, escrow or payment processor. We do not hold donations. We cannot freeze a wallet or reverse a Bitcoin payment.
Why Bitcoin only?
Bitcoin is not run by a bank or a government. Nobody at BitBackMe can stop a payment once it is on the network. We do not list other coins or tokens.
Do I have to use my real name?
No. You can use a name or a nickname. You can also add X/Twitter or Facebook if you want people to check who you are. More proof usually means more trust. That choice is yours.
Where is BitBackMe run from?
The site is run from Australia. Anyone can read a campaign. Creating an account and publishing a campaign is for people aged 18 or over.
STARTING A CAMPAIGN
How do I start?
- Create an account and verify the email.
- Fill in the campaign form: name, who it is for, story, image, goal, Bitcoin address, and optional Mempool and social links.
- Pay the $20 AUD review fee.
- We review it. If it fits the guidelines below, it goes live.
- Share the page. Bitcoin sent to your address is already yours, even if you never hit the goal.
- When you reach your goal, close the campaign. If you want to support the site, send a small optional donation.
What do I need to publish?
- A working email address.
- A campaign title and story.
- Who the campaign is for, and the organiser name or nickname.
- A Bitcoin address you control. Check it three times. Send a tiny test payment if you need to be sure.
- A goal amount.
- An image. Keep it small — about 100 KB. Compress it at tinypng.com if it is too large. Recommended size is at least 1200px width x 675px height. Dimensions less than this will cause the post to not render correctly. Sites like https://pixlr.com/ provide free crop and sizing. For best results, use a photo of who this is for, not a logo.
- Optional: Mempool.space link, X/Twitter, Facebook.
Do you verify every campaign?
We read submissions and we refuse ones that break the guidelines. We do not investigate every claim and we do not endorse a live page. A listing is not a stamp of truth. Donors still need to do their own checks.
Can I run more than one campaign?
Ask us first at support@bitbackme.com. Spam and copy-paste pages will be taken down.
How do I update or close a campaign?
Email support@bitbackme.com with the page link and what you want changed. When you hit your goal, ask us to close or archive it.
Fees and how the site stays up
What is the $20 fee?
A $20 AUD review fee, paid once through Square when you send a campaign in. That pays for review and hosting, and it keeps tyre-kickers and spam off the site. It is not a cut of donations, and it is not a promise the page will go live.
Do you take a percentage of donations?
No. Bitcoin goes to the address on the page. We never touch it. Miner fees on the Bitcoin network are set by the network and your wallet, not by us.
When is the $20 refunded?
We keep the $20 if the campaign is spam, a backlink or SEO job, or anything on the “will not list” list below — illegal activity, fraud, tokens-as-investment, doxxing, and the rest. We will usually refund it if a charity, club or community project submitted by mistake, because BitBackMe is for personal campaigns only. We may also refund a genuine personal campaign we refuse before it goes live, where the problem is not a breach of the rules. Australian Consumer Law still applies where it must. Bitcoin donations are never refundable by us; we never received the coins.
How do you pay the bills if you do not take a cut?
The $20 review fee, and voluntary donations. If a campaign succeeds we may ask you to send a small gift — 1 to 2% of the goal is a common figure on other sites. That is optional. Give what you think is fair, or nothing.
DONATING
How do I donate to a campaign?
- Open the campaign page.
- Copy the Bitcoin address, or use the copy button if there is one.
- Check that same address on Mempool.space.
- Send Bitcoin from your own wallet. Start with a small test if you are new.
You are not paying BitBackMe. You are paying the campaigner.
Do I only get the funds if I reach my goal?
No. The goal is a target on the page, not a lock on the money. There is no pot sitting with BitBackMe, and nothing for us to release when you hit a number. Each donation goes straight to the Bitcoin address on your campaign. If you miss the goal, you still keep what was sent. If you beat the goal, that extra is yours too. Funds arrive when the Bitcoin network confirms each payment — usually minutes, not after a finish line.
WHAT IF I SEND TO THE WRONG ADDRESS?
Bitcoin cannot be pulled back. Check the address twice. We cannot recover it.
Can I get a refund?
Not from BitBackMe. We never received the coins. If you think a campaign misled you, that is between you and the campaigner. You can also email support@bitbackme.com so we can look at taking the page down. Taking a page down does not move Bitcoin already sent.
DO I GET A TAX RECEIPT?
No. Campaign donations are a payment between you and the campaigner. We do not issue receipts for those. Talk to your own tax adviser if you need to.
IS A LIVE WALLET BALANCE ON THE PAGE PROOF OF THE STORY?
No. If we show a balance, it is only a view of public chain data. It can lag or fail. It does not prove why the coins arrived or how they will be used. Always check the address yourself.
I AM NEW TO BITCOIN. WHERE DO I START?
You need a wallet you control. Learn how to back up the seed phrase and never type that phrase into a website. Practice with a tiny amount first. BitBackMe cannot hold coins for you and we will never ask for your seed phrase.
YOUR JOB AS A DONOR
- Read the story.
- DYOR on the campaign, campaign manager and beneficiary.
- Look up the address on Mempool.space.
- Use the social links if they are there.
- Send a test amount first if you are unsure.
- Walk away if it feels wrong. You cannot get Bitcoin back.
CAMPAIGN GUIDELINES
Read this before you pay the $20 review fee. If a campaign breaks these rules we can refuse it or take it down and keep the fee. Listing is a hosting decision, not a legal ruling.
WHAT WE ARE HAPPY TO LIST
BitBackMe is for personal campaigns only. A page must be for a named person — not a charity, a club, or a community project. That means:
a named person, their immediate family, or a close friend;
that person’s own animal;
a private need for that person — medical costs, housing, a funeral, tools, education, or something of the same kind.
WHAT WE WILL NOT LIST
We hold the right to refuse any campaign. Unfortunately due to government red tape in Australia, we do not list charities, community projects or clubs. We will not knowingly list campaigns that:
are for a registered charity, or ask people to “donate to our organisation”;
are an open-ended cause — the homeless, wildlife, disaster victims as a class, and the like;
raise funds for public infrastructure or amenities — halls, parks, playgrounds, courts;
raise funds for a club or association itself;
- are illegal, or that support illegal activity;
- we consider immoral;
- go against the freedom and liberty of others — including violence, slavery, trafficking, child exploitation, or targeting people for who they are;
- are fraudulent, impersonate someone, or look designed to deceive donors;
- raise funds for terrorism, organised crime, illegal weapons or prohibited drugs;
- treat a “donation” as an investment — interest, profit share, tokens, securities or any promised return;
- are mainly about selling non-Bitcoin tokens;
- include sexual content involving minors, or sexual content we are not willing to host;
- doxx, harass or incite harm against a private person;
- use other people’s photos, names or stories without the right to do so;
- are spam, or exist only to farm addresses, backlinks, SEO or traffic.
This list is not complete. We can say no for a reason that is not written here. We do not have to write an essay when we refuse a page, though we will usually say that it was refused.
Why we only list personal campaigns
https://bitbackme.com/terms-of-use/BitBackMe is for one person, their family, a close friend, or that person’s own animal. A private need — medical bills, housing, a funeral, tools, school costs.
We do not list charities. We do not list clubs. We do not list community projects: halls, parks, playgrounds, rescue groups, “help the homeless,” “help flood victims,” and the like.
That is a hosting choice, not a judgment on the cause.
Australia does not have one national fundraising licence. Each state has its own rules for public appeals. Online pages can be treated as fundraising wherever someone reads them. Charity and community appeals sit in that system. A page for Tim's laptop or Larry’s dog usually does not.
We are a listing website. We are not a charity, a trustee, or a licensed fundraiser. We do not hold the Bitcoin. We take a small listing fee. If we hosted public and charitable appeals as well, we would be closer to the rules that apply to those appeals. We are not set up for that.
So the line is simple. Named person. Private need. If the money is for an organisation, a club, a public place, or a cause in general, this is not the site for it. The full list is in the FAQ and the Terms of Use.
NOTHING DODGY
If it feels off to you, it will feel off to us. Do not invent a person, a crisis or a wallet. Do not list an address you do not control. Do not promise donors something Bitcoin cannot do.
YOUR JOB AS A CAMPAIGNER
- Tell the truth, and update the page if the facts change.
- Use funds in line with the story you published.
- Check the Bitcoin address until you are certain.
- Close the campaign when you reach the goal.
- Do not collect seed phrases or “help” donors by taking control of their wallet.
Links in the story
One relevant link is fine. Mempool and social fields don’t count. More than that is treated as spam.
HOW DO I REPORT A CAMPAIGN?
Email support@bitbackme.com with the page link and why it should come down. We will look at it. We still cannot refund coins already sent.
PRIVACY AND PUBLIC PAGES
IS MY CAMPAIGN PRIVATE?
No. A BitBackMe campaign is a public web page. Name or nickname, story, photo, Bitcoin address and any social links can be seen, copied and archived by anyone. Do not publish what you want to keep quiet.
WILL YOU SELL MY DATA
No. See the Privacy Policy for what we collect (account email, campaign fields, the Square submission payment, comments, ordinary server logs) and what we do not collect (donor keys, custody of campaign funds).
CAN YOU DELETE A BITCOIN PAYMENT FROM HISTORY?
No. Taking a page down does not erase the blockchain.
SPAMMERS
HOW WE DEAL WITH SPAMMERS
The $20 AUD fee is for submitting a campaign for review, not a promise it will go live. Campaigns created to farm backlinks, SEO juice or traffic — and other spam — will not be published. We keep the $20. That is the point of the fee. We may refund the fee if we refuse a genuine campaign before it is listed. We will not refund it for spam.
